Today we begin our month-long celebration of poetry. National Poetry Month, inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996 is celebrated every April by schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers and poets throughout the United States! Join in the celebration and get your "Poetry" on this month!
This official poster celebrating National Poetry Month was designed by Chip Kidd. The 2014 poster features the lines "Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, / Missing me one place search another, / I stop somewhere waiting for you." (Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself").
