Poets, Poetry and Postage Stamps

USPS, Poet Postage Stamps, Maya Angelou, United States Postal Service

The U.S. Postal Service announced that Dr. Maya Angelou will be honored with a Forever Stamp later this year! Our poetry community is elated to have more poets join the ranks of governmental officials, entertainers, painters, artists, inventors and military officials who previously appeared on U.S. Postage Stamps.

Dr. Maya Angelou, American author, poet, dancer, singer, Civil Rights advocate and actress, joins the ranks of other well-known poets who graced the front of a postage stamp in their honor, as Dante Alighieri, Elizabeth Bishop, Joseph Brodsky, Gwendolyn Brooks, Julia de Burgos, E. E. Cummings, Emily Dickinson, Robert Hayden, Denise Levertov, Sylvia Plath, Theodore Roethke, Wallace Stevens, and William Carlos Williams.

We are happy that evidence proves how the importance of poetry adds value to every facet of our lives, including our mail. Thanks USPS!
